The Chairmanship of the Nansen Initiative, the Governments of Norway and Switzerland, invite you to take part in an important consultative process. The Nansen Initiative was launched almost three years ago to build consensus on the principles and elements on addressing the needs of people displaced across international borders in the context of disasters, including the effects of climate change. The final outcome, the Protection Agenda, will be presented and validated by States at the Nansen Initiative Global Consultation taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from 12-13 October 2015.

The draft Protection Agenda, which consolidates the conclusions from this process, is now publicly available for comments. You can download a copy by clicking on the image on the right.

States are also welcome to request meetings with the Envoy or the Secretariat of the Nansen Initiative for further clarification and discussion on the draft document. From May until 17 July 2015, States as well as international organizations, civil society, research institutions and others are invited to review the draft document and share comments during various consultative meetings on the draft, or in writing. Written comments will be welcomed until 17 July 2015, and can be sent to the Nansen Initiative Secretariat (info@nanseninitiative.org) or the Envoy (envoy@nanseninitiative.org).

The present Protection Agenda consolidates the outcomes of broad consultations undertaken by the Nansen Initiative on disaster-induced cross-border displacement, a state-led, bottom-up consultative process intended to build consensus on the development of a Protection Agenda addressing the needs of people displaced across borders in the context of disasters and the effects of climate change.
